Performance of RC cast-in-place buildings during the November 26, 2019 Albania earthquake

This paper documents performance of cast-in-place reinforced concrete (RC) buildings in the Durrës municipality during Albania earthquake November 26, 2019 (MW 6.4). Both mid- and high-rise RC were affected by earthquake, experiencing structural and/or non-structural damage even collapse some cases. The authors performed a reconnaissance study after involved seismic assessment area. Besides observations related to physical buildings, also presents results statistical analysis damaged municipality. discussion is focused on patterns failure mechanisms that are relevant for response structures. Most common pattern observed earthquakes was masonry infill walls, which experienced cases, adjacent columns due infill/frame interaction. Taller framed (10 storeys higher) expected have shear walls; however, these walls reportedly absent this type. In (instead walls) used elevator shaft areas, resulted inadequate performance.
